Literature Text

I ran down the road on my four paws rushing to the dock. I made sure to run in front of the camera we set up. Looking for a place to hide I dived into the bushes. Eric wasn't there yet. I had to watch the sea. It was to far to swim and Eric would probably arrive by boat. I looked back down the road to see smoke coming out of the mine. Derek was trying to cover up. I realized the thumb drive was the thing most everyone didn't know about, and it held all of Derek's secrets and the cure. If he got it back he could continue his dark deeds.
Calming down I found myself changing to a werewolf. So the transformation is controlled by emotion and desire. I could live a normal life, nobody would have to know of this ability. I could learn to speak with my dogs. Imagine the advantage in dogsledding.
I felt the thumb drive against my fur. The only desire I had was to get this to Eric to cure Michael. I heard footsteps making my heart beat up my throat. "I can hear everything," I whispered to myself.
"Joshua, Joshua," Eric called. Kris clapped his hand around Eric's mouth. I didn't want to show myself. They would see me as a werewolf, meaning that Derek had won another round.
"Shhh. We don't want Derek to find us. He thinks we aren't here yet. If we can, let's get Joshua out of here quietly," I heard Kris whisper.
"Right," Eric said as Kris grabbed the radio from his belt. Flipping the switch on a radio I heared my dad's voice came in.
"Eric, Kris, what are you doing? Joshua is hiding in the bush near the camra. What the.... There is a weretiger and a werelion after you. I can see them on one of the other cameras. Hurry," Dad's voice rang threw.
"Derek," Eric growled as Eric and Kris rushed to my bush. "Joshua, it is safe now," Eric said firmly but softly. I crawled out carefully.
"I knew you would come for me." I slurred, "Let's leave before Derek or James find us."
"I'm afraid it is too late for that. I am already here," a dark voice said. Derek had found us. I growled with Eric as Kris pulled out his gun. An orange and black paw swiped it away. James was here too, and he grabbed Kris and Eric in a choke hold with a devilish smile.
"You have your kills, Derek, now for the cure," James said as I slowly, silently slid to the gun. I needed to give Eric and Kris a chance to fight back.
"If you want to kill us to remove the evidence you're still a step behind," Eric said, as if trying to throw Derek off.
A shot rang out, wounding James, releasing Eric and Kris. I had never shot anyone before. Eric knocked James head into a nearby tree knocking him out.
Derek than grabbed Kris and swung him into the gun knocking it out of my hands and into the air while Kris fell flat on his back. Out of shock, I changed to a full wolf. Derek lunged at me and Eric dove and snatched me from his reach. Derek crashed to the ground painfully.
"There is no cure to help your Michael return." he finally roared. "There never was or will be." Then he dove for Eric's throat. Instead, they locked into a strange wrestling hold snapping jaws and slashing with their claws. Eric was tackled by Derek and they were locked jaw to jaw. Finally I could not take it, I lunged, knocking Derek to the ground where his head met a rock. He fell unconscious.
The radio blurred and dad's voice came in. "Eric, you're going to have to fly Joshua out with the dragons, none of the boats are docked. Derek shoved them off. I'll contact Zack, he'll take good care of Kris and the scum."
Smiling, Eric turned to me. "Howl, Josh. We can get rides from the dragons." Tilting our heads to the sky we harmoniously let out a clear sweet note. Howling felt relaxing, I could pour all my emotions into it; my guilt, my failure, my bravery, and my sorrow. Two dragons came and I returned to the werewolf form giddy for flight. Cody , the dragon I met earlier, was one of the dragons who came.
Flying was much better than sailing the open sea. It is so much more calm and fun. I was smiling a wolfish grin. I was on Cody. Just like riding on a bird, only bigger and better. As I relaxed I saw the fur disappearing and the muzzle receding. I was back to my normal self.
Feeling the wind brush against my face I felt joyous and sad. I knew this would be the last I see of Eric. Would they shut down the company because of Derek's actions? If there is no cure I will smuggle Michael out. He deserves to be home, his home, our home. I hardly noticed us approaching the soccer field on Dolly Island. I was gazing up into the sky.
We landed in the soccer field with a thud. We were met with victorious cheers from everyone at Dolly Island. Alexander and my dad met us there. We went back to Eric's home.
Salena was cooking a grand dinner when Eric motioned for me. "If everyone doesn't mind, I would like to speak with Josh alone," Eric yelled over the small crowd. "We need to say goodbye," I heard him breathlessly whisper to himself. He led me to a separate room.
"What is it Eric," I paused, "Uncle?" I said the last word quietly, softly as if it were a note. It pained me more to say that marvelous word.
"This is the end of this adventure," Eric said gently, choking on each word. "We probably won't ever meet again; at least not here, not on Dolly Isle. Until the world is ready to accept us, we are bound to this isle."
"How will the world be ready? It won't, never. If you want it to be, you must chance it first," I said not wanting the possibility of his family, and all the werewolves to live with us peacefully to disappear.
"It will be too impossible for the world," Eric said.
"A hard thing takes time, an impossible thing takes a little longer," I said smiling. This helped Eric smile. When I was younger my dad once told me that saying, his brother used to say it, dad told me. I thought he was crazy thinking he was an only child when he told me.
"What about Michael and me?" I asked, "we're nearly the same."
"Even if the company wants to keep you two because of what happened, you have a right to go home," Eric said, "In your case you can hide it."
        "I hate secrets," I said.
"Take these to remember me by," Eric said handing me the figurine he carved on our way to Cave Island. It was a howling wolf standing on a rock. Eric left it plain and roughly carved which gave it the best appearance of strength and wisdom. Then Eric handed me a picture, the picture of Eric and his brother, David Talor, my father. Eric's left foot was on a soccer ball. They were smiling. "Please stay as long as you can with us," Eric said.
"Thank you, Eric. I will see you again, soon," I said hopefully. I was determined to believe myself. "Eric can you help me with one last thing?" I asked, If there was a cure I had to give someone I could trust who knew about genetic science. "This holds all of Derek's research and DNA samples," I said, "I don't want it to fall into the wrong hands, and you will be able to find a cure if anyone can. Can you help Michael?" I said, handing Eric the drive.
